OVERVIEW

Meetings are a central activity of any organization – they are where every strategic or tactical decision should originate – but in reality, don’t. People dread the many meetings they must be involved in, finding them unavoidably unproductive, frustrating, and even painful at times – but they put up with them as a “necessary evil” of organizational life. Meetings are a window into the culture of an organization. If participants are disengaged in meetings, chances are they are disengaged in their daily work. Poor meetings contribute to poor decisions which erode both the performance and health of an organization.

Fortunately, it is possible to transform mediocre meetings into an experience that is productive, focused – even energizing. Most people simply haven’t been taught how. This two-day workshop is a catalyst for those leaders who are ready to transform their meetings. The rewards are significant: better decisions, improved morale, and competitive advantage.


WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  • A process to help you clarify the purpose and what type of meeting you should be holding (many teams use just one style of meeting to address all issues, which results in “meeting stew”)

  • A toolkit to engage participants from the outset of the meeting, and help them know when to debate, brainstorm, vote, or just listen

  • How to structure the meeting in a way that heightens interest and engagement (four stages of productive conversations)

  • How to create an environment in which people are able to productively engage in conflict, address critical issues and make decisions that all can understand, support and implement

  • A toolkit of preventions and interventions to deal with disruptive behaviour

  • How to bring meetings to effective closure, ensure participants have clarity on the outcome and decisions that were made, and what they need to do


HOW YOU WILL LEARN

This is a fast-paced, hands-on workshop presented as a series of interactive modules. Participants learn by both leading and participating in meetings, while receiving individual coaching from instructors.

It has been two years since I took the workshop, and it is still one of the best and most useful courses I’ve taken in my career.
